Responding to the Tragedies of Life

Bible Text: Luke 13:1-9 |

(These are note and ideas I have collected through the years that have been helpful to me. I make no claim of originality here as I know several of these points are the thoughts of others)

There are two mistakes that you can make regarding disaster.

    1. One is to think all the good things that happen to me prove I’m good,
    2. And that all the bad things that happen to me prove I’m bad.
    1. RELEASE my grief.

Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

    1. RECEIVE from others

Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

WHO DO YOU HAVE TO TURN TO IN A CRISIS IN OUR CHURCH?

    1. Refuse to be Bitter

Job 21:25 And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.

Hebrews 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled

1 Thes. 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Accept what cannot be changed.  Quit trying to fight it.  Accept what cannot be changed.

You focus on what’s left.  Not what’s lost.

    1. REMEMBER what’s important.

1 Tim. 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

    1. RELY on Christ

Philip. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

The Real Tragedy is not that people die, but that they die unprepared for Eternity. Repent for you will all likewise perish.
